Their Excellencies letter to the populace from The Quill November 2004
Good Tidings and Salutations from Their Excellencies
Khadijah and Rodrigo.
There was nary a dry eye in the room, nor were our eyes any less flowing! There have been many tales of the Kingdom of Northshield's Coronation already as there will be for all the years going forward as we all fondly reminisce on this magnanimous day and all its splendor. We all have plenty of questions as well. We will do the best we can to find out the answers to many questions as we move forward as a Kingdom.
We offer our congratulations to our new Royal family. Long live King Siegfried! Long live Queen Bridei! Long live Prince Tarrach! Long live Princess Fina! Long live Northshield!
Some of you might wonder what this change in Kingdom status means to our Barony. Our lands are held in fief to Their Majesties of Northshield, by Their grace and with our fealty given openly to Them as Their representatives. The days of Kings and Queens that live in far lands and are rarely seen up our way are over. Although Northshield is still vast in its lands, Their Majesties of Northshield will be more accessible then perhaps has been historically true of our time with the Midrealm.. I am certain Northshield will thrive and prosper under its increased Royal Attention and its populace receive lots of recognition for their service and abilities. However, the efforts to ruling a Kingdom are still mighty and the resources to support that very taxing. It will be much more important for the populace of Northshield to tighten the bonds of their local groups and come together in support of our exiting and future Kings and Queens of Northshield as there is far less resources available to Their Majesties of Northshield as there was prior to Their Majesties of the Midrealm. As such start thinking of ideas of building these bonds and projects for the Barony to focus on to support our King and Queen (not only in regalia, but Royalty Gifts, tokens, scrolls, and ways we can serve).
Another thing to remember is the Baronies of Northshield count for nearly two-thirds of the membership of Northshield. So all (likely soon to be 6) of the Baronies will play a very large roll in the culture and the cohesiveness of Northshield. The armies of Northshield will depend heavily on the Baronies to build up and train their local fighting units, archers, fencers, youth combatants, artillery units, and most importantly its water bearers. The artisans of Northshield will depend heavily on the Baronies building and retaining its knowledge pools and making that knowledge readily available to all who want to learn. The Kingdom will look to its Baronies to provide staff and service in holding positions, running events, and supporting the load of what it takes to run a Kingdom. So think of this time not only as the birth of a new Kingdom but as the start of a new era for Nordskogen.
In addition to gifting the 'largess' accumulated from the largess tournament Baroness Giovanna ran, Nordskogen and its College of Tor Aerie and Canton of Nordleigh gifted a notable monetary sum unto the Kingdom. Our Kingdom is now our financial responsibility and will depend heavily upon donations and fund raising. Please support what fund raising efforts that are put together in any form you are able as everything helps our Kingdom prosper and grow.
Many of you saw the Territorial Baronages giving their oath of fealty at Coronation but may be confused by what we were holding and the ceremony. Each Baronage brought earth from their lands and held this in their hands as they swore an oath of fealty to the King and Queen of Northshield, in whom the lands are held in fief. We will be building on the significance of this ceremony at our next court at the folk moot in November.
May sunshine always grace your face so shadow never will.
