Their Excellencies letter to the populace from The Quill March 2005

Good Tidings and Salutations from Their Excellencies Rodrigo and Khadijah,

Much has happened and much more is upon us...

At 12th Night many things did pass. First of all, we?d like to thank Lady Petranella, Lord Torsten, and all the 12th Night staff for pulling off a wonderful event despite the adversity that was thrown at them. We?d also like to congratulate and welcome in to our Order of the Rouge Bend THL Christian d?Hiver, THL Vladimir Radescu, and THL Padruig MacLennan.

At 12th Night January 29th A.S. 39 we did open a new baronial award. The award of the Azure Gauntlet given for excellence in martial abilities as displayed in baronial activities. The bearer of this award may wear a blue gauntlet with a white snowflake on its cuff. The premieres of this award are Viscount Sir Tristan von Eisig and Viscount Kenneth die Katze for their prowess and years of activity with armored combat within the Barony, Don Simon Morcar for his prowess and dedication to rapier within the Barony, Master Etienne de Clermont for his keen skill and service to the Barony in Archery, Lady Thuri Landsverk for her riding prowess and dedication to Equestrian activities within the Barony, to Ragnar Storr for his sure arm and concentration on Thrown Weapons in the Barony, and to Lord Teague of Ravensgold for his prowess and years of activity in Youth Combat within the Barony. For this fine gentles, VIVANT! Let them set the standard of what a bearer of the Azure Gauntlet is measured up to.

Many of you have seen the new ceremony for giving Oaths of Fealty in Northshield and some of you may have seen how Territorial Baronages swear fealty upon soil of the lands they hold for Their Majesties. We have decided to build upon that ceremony in a very period manner. We have given titles to four gentles within our lands as Gatekeeper?s of the North, South, East, and West. These titles were accompanied with a bush in soil so that each of these gentles could bring us soil from beneath each of these bushes from the four ends of our lands in order that we may swear fealty upon soil representing all of Nordskogen?s lands to Their Majesties. These titles of Gatekeepers are held and passed on by the bearers of them as they see fit to a worthy successor such as would have been so with a hereditary title. The Gatekeeper of the North is Viscount Sir Aubrey Swiftwater. The Gatekeeper of the South is Baron Sir Aaron Palomides of Buckminster. The Gatekeeper of the East is Sir Lars Wolfsblut. The Gatekeeper of the North is Viscount Sir Aubrey Swiftwater. The Gatekeeper of the South is Baron Sir Aaron Palomides of Buckminster. The Gatekeeper of the East is Sir Lars Wolfsblut. The Gatekeeper of the West is Syr Durand FitzRobert. For our new GateKeeper?s VIVANT!

It comes with grave tidings that we have heard from Their Majesties that there is to be a war to the south in the lands where the sea meets the mighty river of Mississippi, a War of the Gulf between the Kingdom of Ansteorra and the Kingdom of Trimaris. The Griffin is to follow its parentage, The Dragon, in alliance with the Kingdom of Trimaris and Their Majesties have called forth all able bodies to travel far to this southern gulf war and contribute what they may to the war effort. As such we call forth our warriors of heavy sword and light, our archers, our artillery, our riders, our young combatants, our bards, our bearers of water, our vinters of wine and mead, our brewers, our makers of garb, our artisans, our heralds, our scribes, and all else who can contribute to this effort to travel under the banner of Nordskogen to the call of the Griffin and Their Majesties. His Excellency, Rodrigo, will lead this caravan, so please contact if need assistance with your travel arrangements.

Finally, there are many, many, many events coming up this spring. The hard winter is passing and it is time to wipe the dust from the armor, clean the swords, fletch the arrows, repair the soles of your traveling boots and pull out the spring clothing. Look to your calendars and see that a few hours travel in almost any direction will take you to an event almost every single weekend this spring. If you are a veteran traveler now is the time to bring in those who have yet to experience the addiction and help them expand their horizons. If you have yet to travel with frequency seek out those who have experience and find out how you too may enjoy such a wealth of activities and experiences by sharing the coaches and inns.
