Their Excellencies letter to the populace from The Quill July 2004
Good Tidings and Salutations from Their Excellencies Rodrigo and Khadijah,
First, we'd like to give congratulations to our new Rapier Champion, Lady
Caelfind ni Mullen called Alanna, and our new Archery Champion Baron Master
Geoffrey of Warwick.
On that note, we'd like to announce our Arts and Sciences Champion Competition
at the August Folk Moot on Wednesday, August 4th. This will be a standard bean
count competition. Please bring your projects and appropriate documentation
and compete for the honor of being the Nordskogen Arts and Sciences Champion!!
Warriors and Warlords is fast upon us, please remember that this is our event
and as such we need to volunteer for shifts to make the event run. I realize
that this event provides a lot of activities that we all enjoy doing, but we
all need to put in some time helping so that we all get to do the activities
we'd like to do.
This is where your Baron will reminisce about the first WW I attended and
volunteered at troll. I got to meet so many people who (being a newbie), I
probably would not have talked to on my own. One such person was the ACTUAL
BARONESS of Jararvellir was working Troll, I was amazed that an ACTUAL BARONESS
was doing work (especially work that any newbie like me could do). That person
was Her Excellency Elashava bas Riva, who became a good friend and who taught a
lesson to an amazed newbie by providing an excellent example of giving service
back to the SCA. Well, once again, an ACTUAL BARONESS is working troll, this
year as it was last year, it is our own Baroness Khadijah... I wonder who the
amazed newbie will be this time?
Wasn't it neat the first time you got called into court to receive an award,
kind of nerve racking having to walk up in front of all those people? Wasn't
it neat the last time you got called up in court? Wasn't it neat to see your
friends get called up in court and receive an award that they really deserved?
Why am I asking all these questions? Because none of that happens if you don't
take the time to send in award recommendations. Their Stellar Highnesses have
not been receiving very many recommendations and we haven't received an award
recommendation in several months!! We find it hard to believe that there
aren't some deserving people out there. Also, with WW coming and all the
volunteering that I know we'll all be doing and the activities we will be
enjoying, please take some time to remember who stands out and deserves to be
recognized.
Finally, remember we have an event in August as well. Its St. Augustine's
Faire in Herald's Hill just across the border in the Kingdom of Calontir
(Hampton, Iowa). The event is August 27-29 and is a co-event with the Baron of
Coeur d'Ennui. This event was very enjoyable last year, the fighting was
great, there was archery and thrown weapons, and an Arts and Sciences
competition. Please join your Baron and Baroness in the fun there!
May sunshine always grace your face so shadow never will.
Rodrigo and Khadijah.
