A long time ago, I was the Seneschal of a college group. During my term of office, I helped a lot of students get ready for and attend the Pennsic War, and each time I was amazed at the sheer amount of questions they had—before going, en route and while they were there. Finally, I decided to find a way to help these first-time Pennsic goers in a way that didn’t require the actual presence of myself or any other Pennsic veteran: a booklet, which has now evolved into these Web pages.

To be honest, even I was a bit taken aback at how well the booklet was received. Every single student who used the booklet and went to Pennsic told me over and over again how helpful it was for them. Who would have thought?

It has been many years since I wrote the first booklet and its content has undergone a lot of changes with each version. The basic idea remains the same, however.

This site has been designed to help the first-time Pennsic goer get prepared mentally, financially and physically for the experience that is Pennsic. It assumes that you’ve had at least some experience with camping in general and with SCA camping in particular, but that you don’t know thing one about Pennsic.

This is not the only “get ready for Pennsic” source out there. Many people in many groups have had a similar idea. I encourage you to look around and ask around for other people’s helpful advice.

I hope this site helps you as much as it helped those bewildered students so many years ago.
