Queen Anne, Princess Elizabeth and Baroness Deja welcome you to join Them for a tournament of Fun at Our upcoming 12th night celebration in Nordskogen!
For this day the queen will be the representation of the rapier community, the princess that of the heavy community and the baroness of Cut and Thrust. Each honorable lady will choose six ladies from Her court (two to watch each field) these ladies will be tasked with selecting a fighter who embodies to them the most "fun" on the field and present them with a token of her lady's favor. Tokens should not be worn until time for the tournament as the royal Ladies will not be told who their fighters are and it shall remain a secret until They are called out for the tournament.
The Ladies will call upon their teams to present themselves at 4pm. The tournament will consist of 18 fighters, 6 from each field - heavy, rapier and cut and thrust. The tournament will be fought in two stages. The first stage will be a single elimination, best two out of three, fought in the style of the fighters choosing, so bring your best. All lists for the first round shall be fought simultaneously and continue until there are two fighters left on each field. The second stage will be done as single fights to determine a victor from each field and will be best two out of three but the style for each bout will be chosen by the lady representing that field. The victor of each field will receive a 12th Night gift from the lady of their field. The lady with the most remaining fighters shall win the day!
The fields not being used for the tournament may remain open for those who wish to continue to do pick up fights if their are marshals available. All fields will close promptly at 5pm to allow time to prepare for feast.
  • Cut and Thrust
  • The first tournament will be a sword and shield (not buckler) tournament. Shields need to be of a period design and a minimum of 20” diameter. Additionally, they will need to be constructed of steel or wood. Aluminum will not be allowed. The idea of the tournament is to deal with a shield of period weight (more information to come on this). If you have no shield, we will be providing Arm & Armor steel rotellas.
Additionally, if we can find heavy mail armor (as opposed to the rapier legal Darkwood mail), we may include the rules on armor as worn for the finals.
The second tournament will be a return of the Belgian longsword tourney. This is done as a modified Bearpit. The target will be limited to the waist up and the arms down to the elbow. Anything else does not count. The holder of the field will also have the right of the afterblow. If the challenger gets a hit, the champion has the tempo of a single step to make an afterstrike and get a doublekill, in which case, they retain the field.
Magnifico Niccolo Falconetto - Cut and Thrust Marshal in Charge
  • Heavy Weapons
  • Baron Frederick de Fulbert - Heavy Weapons Marshal in Charge
  • Rapier
    • Inspections will take place any time up until 15 minutes prior to court and will be held in a room to the left of gate. We do not have access to the gym until noon.
    • Authorizations: By prior arrangement only, preferrably after court and later in the afternoon
    • Field Open: As soon as court ends until 5 pm
    • 4-5 pm is reserved for the favor tourney but the field will remain open for token pick up fights
    Token Pick Up Fights
From open to close of field . Each fighter should bring a sufficient number of personal tokens. Find a partner and a marshal and fight. Fighters can use any weapon form that they are authorized in. The winner will receive a token from their opponent. You do not need to report wins to the list table. There will be two prizes, one for the fighter with the most tokens and the other for the fighter with the biggest variety of tokens. Examples of tokens include cast or struck coins, buttons, beads, or ribbons in your colors.
    Mock Ravine Battle
Two teams will fight for control of a flag for during a resurrection battle. We will keep track of who has control of the flag at multiple points during the battle. The length of the battle will be determined by the number of fighters. There will also be obstacles such as bushes or stumps to fight around or over. This scenario will be run a minimum of two times.
Lady Constanza de Sevilla and Mistress Margalit Medicus - Rapier Marshalls in Charge

Arts & Sciences

A&S in any (non alcohol) medium somehow related to and of the SCA martial arts. It will be a judged competition according to these criteria. Please pre-reg with Petranella by December 15th with a brief description of the item and level so judges can be arranged.

Bard of Nordskogen

The golden elm shines before
The oaken shield of the northern realm
Her light guides the great galti’s might
The great boar seeks her counsel
From this model others take
Bondi to kona, father to son
Mother to pike, lovers to each
Inspiration the other gives

Winter to summer to winter
The seasons do make their turn
Skald was chosen by flaky hersir
Story told of days gone by
Gods did arouse, reason was
Bragi’s tongue the skald did use
Now is time for hersir’s choice
Northern woods new bard to get

On helligtrekongersdag
Honor gained, those who come
Hersir’s skald for winter will hold
By saga or skryta, maybe a song
Shall ash and elm come to strive
Of drottning’s nobility must all skrive
Let Suttung’s mead coat your tongue
Let Anne’s ånd guide your pen.

Their Excellencies Nordskogen and Their Skald announce a challenge to the Folk of Northshield. During the 12th Night Celebration to be held on the 4th of January 2014 CE and hosted by the Canton of Blachemere. All who enter will perform a song, poem, story, boast or toast in honor of, or inspired by Her Majesty, Queen Anne. All works must be original, but do not need to be in a period style (extra points if it is though). See Geirfold Norskogensskald at 12th Night prior to the contest to enter.
